有時候做網頁的朋友可能會覺得英文的網頁字體總是很漂亮，而中文的網頁不外乎就是「細明體」、「微軟正黑體」這兩種，那是因為英文的網頁不需要考量字型檔的大小，若使用者沒有網頁所使用的該種字體時，會直接由伺服器提供字型至用戶端，讓使用者可以正確的觀賞到該字型，那中文難道就不行嗎？事實上中文的字體檔通常比英文的大上好幾倍，因為英文字只有26個字母，就算加上大小寫區別、標點符號、數字…等等，應該也不會超過200個字，但中文呢？若一個中文字體檔只有兩百個字，你可以想像整個網頁會變成怎樣嗎？
若是真的想要把中文字體漂漂亮亮的呈現在網頁上，就要把中文字體檔製作成好多種格式，例如：eot、ttf、woff…等（別跟我說做成圖這種老派的做法），非常的複雜又麻煩，另外！你確定你有這個字體的網路散播權嗎？
不過，現在有個好消息，在Google Fonts Early Access的頁面上，總共推出了五種中文的網路字型，可以讓製作網頁的我們輕鬆的變化網頁上面的字體，只需要引用由Google提供給我們的CSS後，在頁面所需要的文字上加上font-family的CSS樣式就可以了，雖然目前只有五種，但也期待Google可以繼續為中文市場努力，提供我們更多好看的字型使用！
